Printing: direct that a matter marked for omission or correction is to be retained (used in the imperative).

Examples
- The editor marked the passage for correction, but the author later exclaimed "stet" when they reviewed the proofs.
- When the proofreader suggested changing the spelling, the editor yelled out "stet" to leave the text as is.
- On reviewing the galley, the publisher decided to write "stet" against the paragraph that had been marked for deletion.
- As the office printed the newspaper, "stet" was written on the margin beside every correction request the copy editor had marked.
- Although the proof was clearly flawed, the author decided to write "stet" in the margin beside the error, deeming it acceptable.
