Overwrite (Verb)
Meaning
Write new data on top of existing data and thus erase the previously existing data; "overwrite that file".
Classification
Verbs of telling, asking, ordering, singing.
Examples
- The new software will automatically overwrite the old files when you save the updated data.
- You can choose to overwrite the existing file or save the new data with a different name.
- If you select 'yes', the system will overwrite the current configuration with the default settings.
- Be careful not to overwrite important documents when cleaning up your computer files.
- Saving the new version will overwrite the original file, so make sure to create a backup first.
