Undergo necrosis; "the tissue around the wound necrosed".

Examples
- The tissue around the infected cut necrosed, turning black and causing severe pain.
- If left untreated, the tumor will continue to necrose, leading to further tissue damage and complications.
- Due to inadequate blood supply, the skin on her toes began to necrose, leaving her at risk of gangrene.
- Prolonged exposure to radiation caused the muscle cells to necrose, weakening the surrounding area.
- If the flow of oxygen and nutrients is cut off for an extended period, the affected cells will begin to necrose.
