Mat Up (Verb)
Meaning
Change texture so as to become matted and felt-like; "The fabric felted up after several washes".
Classification
Verbs of size, temperature change, intensifying, etc..
Examples
- Her favorite wool sweater mat_up after it accidentally went through the hot wash cycle.
- The sweatpants mat_up and became rough after years of use and multiple washes.
- The fleece mat_up and lost some of its original softness over time.
- The machine that crushed and tangled the wool fibers caused it to mat_up into a thick felt.
- If you continuously rub or brush the fibers in one direction it will mat_up and create a dense, thick pile.
