Farad (Noun)
Meaning
The capacitance of a capacitor that has an equal and opposite charge of 1 coulomb on each plate and a voltage difference of 1 volt between the plates.
Classification
Nouns denoting quantities and units of measure.
Examples
- A standard farad is an enormous amount of capacitance and it's almost impossible to construct such a capacitor.
- In SI units, capacitance is measured in farads, named after Michael Faraday, and can be denoted by the letter F.
- In real applications, most capacitors have values ranging from picofarads to microfarads rather than the large unit of farads.
- In some circuits, designers can utilize microfarads to meet their needs while for some circuits the small farads units will work perfectly fine.
- Although capacitors measured in farads can hold more electric charge than their micro and pico versions they aren't that widely used in today's devices.
