Examples

  • White rice is made by removing the outer layers and germ from brown rice through a milling process that leaves it milled and refined.
  • In Japan, most milled rice is produced for domestic consumption.
  • To be labeled as brown rice, it cannot be milled to remove more than 10% of its weight.
  • Some manufacturers also milled and processed buckwheat into flakes, flour or husks that can be used as a nutritious supplement.
  • The healthiest varieties of rice are considered to be less milled, and therefore higher in fiber and nutrients, than their processed counterparts.
