Anticlockwise (Adverb)
Meaning
In a direction opposite to the direction in which the hands of a clock move; "please move counterclockwise in a circle!".
Examples
- To tighten the screw, turn it anticlockwise for several turns until it is loose.
- Please walk around the island anticlockwise to take in all the sights.
- To unlock the safe, turn the dial anticlockwise for 5 numbers, then clockwise for 2 numbers.
- When leaving the stage, the dancers must exit anticlockwise to avoid collisions.
